I really appreciate not only the recipes in this book in how to make one's own bitters, but also recipes for how to use them, and they why different herbs are used for different kinds of maladies for different bitter blends. It's an incredibly well laid out, accurate, and user firendly resource that I'll be sure to have on hand for a very long time.

This is a really great book written by the founders of Urban Moonshine. It gives a bit of history of bitters and why they were/are used. The book covers everything for the beginner - from what sort of equipment is needed, the herbs/spices used, to where you can get supplies. It goes over the properties of the bitter herbs and how they can be used. Clear and easy to understand all the way through your first batch. There are also many interesting recipes included for interesting drinks and uses for bitters. Bitters are very beneficial, especially with so many people rushing through life and not having the time to take proper care to make sure we are eating proper and balanced food. If you're making your first attempt at creating your own bitters, this book covers all you need to get started and you shouldn't be disappointed

This is a fantastic read! I heard about it through my teacher and am so glad to have picked it up. The book is very thorough and has answered many questions long in my head. Highly recommend it to all herbalists! I look forward to trying my hand at the recipes for deliciously bitter concoctions the authors share.

This is an excellent companion volume to the book Bitters by Brad Parsons. The information compliments but doesn't duplicate. If you're interested in bitters,you need both books. If you're interested in the art of mixology Fundamentals of Mixology is an important book as well!

Love this book and have made many of the tinctures already! Also love the recipes, especially the sleep tincture which works wonders for me. Try the Kava Ginger Pastilles when having a party - they will relax your guests and make them happy, guaranteed. Love the clear plant descriptions, individual plant tincturing instructions, and the recipes. One of my all-time favorite books!

I'm looking forward to trying some of these recipes out. The author is excellent and authentic. My first introduction was through a herbal pharmacology class in which he presented with a solid scientific base. He's a credit to modern herbalism.

This gorgeous book is part history, part medicinal herbal, part gardening glamor, part recipe book, part cocktailcrafting (anyone play KoL?), and all delightful. I gave it to a friend who is very DIY and very herb-crafty, as a Christmas gift. She was delighted! Due to my own error I ordered two copies, and guess what? Now I get to keep one. :)

It's hard to tell from the 'look inside!' photos, but the body text isn't a standard serif/sans-serif font, but one that is slightly artistic. The book is hard to read because of the font choice for body text, which uses uneven strokes on letters.Also, as another reviewer noted, the editing on this is questionable - there's a recipe that needs hazelnut tincture, but no recipe for hazelnut tincture.

I recently returned from my third trip to Singapore and saw this book at a famous Singapore hotel. It was too large for my suitcase, so I ordered when I returned home. It's a wonderful pictorial history of Singapore. it's fascinating to see how much Singapore has changed in such a short time. If you are interested in Singapore, then this is a must have book.

The photos and writing in the book is very good. I would say the modern Singapore pictures are a little off be the cliche or simply staged. But as you go back in time the pictures are really meaningful to me, someone who has spent a lot of time in Singapore, knows its history and loves it as if it were my own.

It was a gift to my friend living in Singapore. He was impreseed as he had seen these pictures only in the museums....

Excellent photos and description of history up until 2000. Comprehensive details of change across the years. A great read with plenty of nostalgia for expats.

This is a thick picture book of Singapore gone by. The pictures are organised chronologically. There are some great aerial maps from the 1950s.The key weakness is 1970 to 2000. Pictures are not very good. Especially for newcomers to Singapore it is fun to see how Singapore has changed in the last couple of decades as well.I can recommend this book to people who move to Singapore and would like to get a visual history of how this island looked in years gone by.

Its simply amazing going through Singapore's history through this book. Its almost unbelievable how much change has occured in Singapore, especially when you look at pictures of Orchard Road in the book and it looks literally like an orchard, unlike the ultra-modern shopping district it is now. Or the pictures of Bugis as an old Malay village with it just next to the shoreline, and thinking about the amount of land that has been reclaimed. You'll encounter feelings and thoughts like this over and over as you go over this book.Recommended for the Singaporean who's curious on our own past, or for the visitor to Singpapore who wants to know more about this small island nation.The only thing that I find disapointing with the book are the photos chosen for the "modern era" depiction of Singapore. Some of those pictures simply don't belong there, like the pictures of the local actors and actresses...

In my 5 years of dedication to healing through PTSD, from childhood trauma into adult independence, I have never experienced struggling harder than through Somatic Experiencing & Dr. Levine's practices here. This has been much harder than in previous times, and a much slower process. I share this for anyone who may be in self-doubt or doubt of Dr. Levine's work, to reassure you that the effort is hard but it's worth it.My biggest problem is moving from my head into my body, however, I am slowly climbing mountains- and Dr. Levine's work is unique, unlike any other approach I've experienced. It's not easy and it's not supposed to be easy. Somatic Experiencing focuses directly on the work that needs to be done. To care about your body enough to go through mundane, extremely simple exercises and be dedicated.In 3 years I had been to 13 different doctors in fields of psychology and neurology. I had only a few good experiences, and only in finding Somatic Experiencing have I discovered something radically different. It reminds me of what I learned in overcoming a visceral, biological anti-needle reaction. Your brain doesn't change until your body does.It's not perfect, it's not easy, you may have the greatest doubts and least faith in the midst of these exercises. It might feel boring and uneventful, as if you are doing nothing and it doesn't feel traumatic or even real. But that is just part of how it is, when we are numb, stuck off, unaware, or stuck on, blind. There is no "wrong" way to do these exercises. At first I could feel that I was bad at them somehow, and I had to just keep doing it poorly to get through those bad parts and get better. Doing it poorly was freeing enough that it allowed me to get better. The difficulty of these exercises helped me realize that I don't have to have high standards or be so great at achieving this healing, I can take it much slower. For much of my life, I have been able to lean on my over-active mind as a crutch, a spontaneous creator. But to really learn, I have to struggle. It has to be uncomfortable.I would recommend these exercises to anyone struggling to get out of repetitious habits, addictions, or struggling to gain autonomy & willpower.

Don't buy this book on Kindle. The book is great--really sensitive and helpful approach. However, the healing process depends on doing the exercises that are included with the book as a CD. There is no CD or links to these exercises when you get the Kindle.

I don't usually do book reviews because I find it hard to balance giving a comprehensive analysis without running on and on. However I really like this book and want to support it. I came into reading this with a long standing interest in how trauma plays a part in the hard wiring of our brains and how this can be reversed. While not being as technical and more geared toward the lay population I think this book makes a good adjunct to the works of Van Der Kolk.I think it could be very helpful to anyone who is working to recover from trauma.

This is a very powerful book. I have been in therapy for 15 years. My therapists realize that I have had a difficult past, but no one "get it" about the pain and suffering that I went through as a child which hovers over my adult life. I suffer from depression and don't want to be on pills all of my life. I also was starved, raped, neglected, malnourished and had scurvy as a child and every therapist wants to help by saying" that was the past and get over it. you are an adult now. Change your thoughts. This book gives my the understanding and tools to work through the past and move on. Well written and easy to understand.. If you have been through trauma you need this book and buy one for your therapist.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing the ebook for this particular title, book refers to a "CD," frequently. If you purchase the regular book it comes with a CD.

Very interesting approach - something I have heard about for a while and about which good results are being reported. After so many 'talk' solutions which have helped my thought process, this approach has promise for resolving and clearing out the shadow effects. Emotions really do 'freeze' in the body and cause all sorts of issues unless and until they are 'expressed' and one can find a way to reconnect head (thought) to the rest of self (physical). Very hopeful, have begun the process. Having the CD is very valuable. Hope alone is a great by-product.

Quick easy to read and understand version of Peter Levine's methods. Basic steps to start working on healing yourself. Not as detailed as Healing the Tiger or In an Unspoken Voice. Read this first to see if it is something you will follow through with. Having done this work with a Levine trained therapist I can vouch for not only the book but the method!

The Little Witch Academia manga adaptation is... pretty good? Really? Yes. Yes it is.I don't typically write reviews for manga or light novels (which I typically view as rather disposable entertainment, with a few exceptions), but today I'm making an exception. Manga adaptations of anime are typically... not very good. The story is often abridged, sometimes losing necessary characterization, exposition and development in the process; and the art itself often comes across as a pale imitation of the source material. I am an enormous fan of the Little Witch Academia animations, so I pre-ordered this volume the moment I saw it listed on eBay (God help me, I'm here every week to see if a BD release is listed yet). But I fully expected it to be the same kind of hastily-produced tie-in adaptations that these things usually are.It is not.This manga adaptation is very faithful to the original story, but not beholden to it. About half the material in this volume was adapted from the anime, while the other half was new material that, conceivably, occurred in-between the episodes. It's a great approach that allows the manga to cover the fundamentals of the LWA story for uninitiated, while also giving anime fans like myself new material to enjoy. One consequence of this is that side-characters are introduced more quickly and get more moments to "shine," though if you haven't seen the anime you may sometimes be confused as the manga often references Akko's animated adventures. I was particularly happy to see some Constanze steal a few scenes in this volume, as she's probably my favorite of the peripheral cast.Poor pacing is a common problem with adaptations like this, but mangaka Sato Keisuki has clearly taken great care to maintain the flow of the story at a similar pace to the original, while still taking time to *perfectly* capture the essence of each character in each panel. So much of LWA's charm came from the voice acting, but I almost don't miss it, because the characters are even more expressive on the page than they were on the screen. Fellow fans of the anime might scoff at that, given just how expressive the anime is, but it's true. This Akko is the real deal. All of the wit and charm and humor and beauty that made the Little Witch Academia anime so compelling is translated to the manga format almost perfectly. For fellow fans of anime, rest assured, this is a worthy read and an excellent supplement to the anime; for the woefully uninitiated, I still think it would be better to watch the (absolutely stunning, brilliant) anime first, but even if you jump in blind with the manga, I have a feeling your first foray into the LWA world will still be a lot of fun.I haven't really been following news of the LWA "franchise" since the news of Shimada Michiru's passing late last year, but I'm very hopeful that it may continue, and would very much like to see this manga adapt the full length and breadth of the anime series (and possibly more). Without Shimada, we may never see more LWA, and if we do, it very likely won't be the same without the original writer penning Akko, Sucy and Charlotte's words... but if we do, I hope future iterations of the series are able to maintain the same level of respect for and understanding of the original Little Witch Academia as this manga adaptation.

Let's be honest with one another for a moment: there's nothing quite like a magical girl! And in all the years and vast titles that populate the magical girl genre, I don't know if I've ever quite encountered anything like "Little Witch Academia".Someone might despair this as nonsense, as the series feels heavily influenced by Harry Potter, and indeed I've seen that parallel drawn several times by now. (To be fair, Harry Potter parallels very strongly with "The Worst Witch", a television series that originally aired on BBC before Rowling began writing "Philosopher's Stone", and those ardent Potterheads ready to cry plagiarism against Trigger Studios for "ripping off" their precious Hogwarts should take into account that Rowling herself faced lawsuits for her work being far too similar to "The Worst Witch". So there's some food for thought: Luna Nova Academy for Witches isn't the first magical school in media we've seen, and it likely won't be the last either.)But here's the critical thing that separates "Little Witch Academia" from both Harry Potter and other magical girl series in the magical girl genre: our protagonist Atsuko "Akko" Kagari can't do magic. Akko doesn't come from a witch family and cannot perform even the simplest of magical feats, but that's not going to stop her from attending Luna Nova Academy in England, for it is the alma mater of her witch idol, Shiny Chariot!Now here is where I must make the obligatory Netflix plug and stress it: you should not start reading this manga if you have not watched the anime. There is a 20 minute short stand-alone episode and a short movie called "The Magic Parade" for "Little Witch Academia" that acted as promo animations to get a greenlight for the main series (neither of these is necessarily canon to the main series itself, but they're worth a watch) and then the main series itself, which is two seasons long.Please watch the main anime series before you start this manga.Please watch the main anime series before you start this manga.Please watch the main anime series before you start this manga.The events in this manga are not exact to what is in the anime series episodes, and references events in those episodes. There is a story about the shooting star broom in the manga that references the anime episodes, but is not in the anime itself. There is a volleyball match that doesn't take place in the anime. Please, please, please, I am begging you, watch the anime before you start reading the manga. Otherwise, you will end up incredibly confused.That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this first volume, and was pleasantly surprised by the additional new stories that were included. I suppose my only major complaint was that this volume feels very short and I wish we didn't have to wait for the release of the next one.

Little Witch Academia (LWA) conquers all that it can for what it wants to say in its story. The characters are unique and charming, the art of both the original show and this manga are expressionate and reflect the passion for this series that was able to survive through the obstacles it has faced. While highly recommending the show, especially since it came first, I was expecting it to be following the same exact story. And it didn't. But I'm actually glad. Because Keisuke Sato (the artist) decided to put new scenes in, but gives the characters the same lessons and emotions to be dealt with and learn as the show did.One of my favorite shows and probably manga as well. Isn't for everybody, but sure has components of everything a great series should have. Can't wait until the next volume.

Product arrived on time and it was an nice little read. Some characterization is a little different than the anime version of those characters, which was surprising but fine.

It is basically a retelling of the TV anime with a few changes .I absolutely love LWA , so I was very pleased to receive this as a Christmas present .Overall I recommend this to any fan of LWA.

The Fodor's Guide has useful and interesting information about specific areas, although it didn't cover quite as much as I'd have liked. When it talks about Merida being a bustling city, it does not say that the streets are extremely narrow and can be packed with traffic of all kinds (people walking, on scooters and bike; in cars, trucks and buses) and the rule seems to be just jump in and go. Also, the police in the city travel with all their flashing lights on, so you never know if there's something wrong or not. I took the book along on our trip to the Yucatan and did use it, but I found the area descriptions to be the most useful. What I found of most value was reading it in advance, before we even started our trip. It includes things like traveling and driving in the Yucatan that are really good to know. I did put tabs on the sections (Merida, Tulum, etc) for fast reference, and that helped.

I bought this for a summer family adventure to Cancun and the entire Riviera Maya coast. To show you how valuable I found it - I never unpacked it from the suitcase. There was simply nothing here that one could not find with 90 seconds of Google. I guess if you have never been on the Internet this would be a gold mine. However, in 2013, Fodor's needs to do way better. We found a Fodor's guide to Paris extremely valuable on a trip last year - it was filled with insider tips, tricks, and made you feel like the authors had actually lived in Paris. This felt like a few kids spent the summer online and printed out whatever they could find and called it the Fodor's Cancun and the Riviera Maya 2013.

Only four hotel ratings for Tulum!!!!!???? Come on! There are zillions of hotels in Tulum. This is not a very comprehensive or useful guide. I'm pretty disappointed. Also, for every hotel rating section, it says to check Fodor's website online for "more in depth reviews" but the reviews on the site are exactly the same and not any more in depth. Rip off!

The information in this guide is very superficial, particularly with regard to attractions such as Sian Ka'an and the Tulum ruins. It spends most of its time listing restaurants and hotels, but provides little in the way of other information that a visitor will need to maximize his/her enjoyment of a stay in the area.

A volume filled with practical and helpful information for my trip to Cancun. Smooth pages and great photos. It's been a number of years since my last visit, so I had concerns about drinking the water. Cancun has come a long way and, while the book recommends not drinking the water, the resort was fine, the water was fine, the salads were fine, etc. The book gave me lots of recommendations and I was glad to have it along for reference!

My husband and I recently took a trip to Cancun and found this guide to be most helpful.Very up-to-date information with lots of must see suggestions for sightseeing and dining.Will look for more Fodor's travel books for future travels.

Nice book if you're going to this area, but I found after reading through it, that I didn't use it much while I was down there. You could probably find all the information from here on the internet and save you some money.

A Good book to learn about tribes and some history of tribes across America, but is not detailed about all tribes.

This is a comprehensive treatment of the history of Indians in North America, so it's a great resource tool! I look forward to reading it slowly in bits & pieces, learning all the while.. An excellent volume for anyone's library.

What a book! First saw this at our local library, and once viewed, absolutely had to have this in our personal library. Lots of references say this is the book to have if you are interested in the topic.

Informative and great history of Native Americans and First Nations of Canada

I recently purchased two North Korean photo books, "Inside North Korea" (which is this one) and "North Korea" (North Korea). Both books are excellent but the two are actually quite different.This book is the more comprehensive of the two books. While the other book ("North Korea") stays primarily within Pyongyang, this book covers various regions of the country. This book also has more detailed photo captions, including English translations for many of the propaganda posters that can be found everywhere.This book is comparatively more verbose than "North Korea." The Foreword is by Bruce Cumings, and each chapter also begins with an introduction of usually a couple of pages. Some people may find this useful; I usually just go straight to the photos.There are many photos of the yearly Arirang Festival presented here. It looks like they're trying to portray the panels flipping from one side to the other, which creates a larger, composite image of the Great Leader. About half of the Arirang photos may seem redundant (unless you've never seen video footage of this before).If you want to learn more about the country and could only buy one photo book, this is the one I would buy. If you're looking for a more esthetically pleasing coffee table book, then I would recommend "North Korea" (North Korea), but keep in mind that book stays predominately within Pyongyang.

When I purchased this book, I envisioned a narrative of life in North Korea, however, I quickly discovered this book WAS NOT what I had expected. Pleasantly surprised, I opened the book to see dozens of high-resolution photographs of North Korean cultural sites, monuments, Pyongyang, the DMZ, towns and farms, and Koreans. It shocked me to see these photographs, which were no-doubt screened before leaving the country, of a reclusive nation with a rich historical background.The book is large, full of photographs, and sparse on narrative. The photographer teamed with noted American author and Korean Historian Bruce Cumings for the forward.Photographs include: Mass Games, Pyongyang, The Monument to the Workers' Party, the Juche Tower, trolleys and subways, the Mansudae Grand Monument on Mansu Hill, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, Arch of Triumph, the Reunification Arch, the DMZ, murals, soldiers in uniform, children, farmers, and small towns.

This gives one a quick overview and some cool pics of North Korea. Great way to get a basic understanding of what it's like in N. Korea

It's a nice book with lots of pretty pictures.

For the price, not good. Basic overview that jumps around... pretty generic and ridiculously expensive for how short it is. Nothing you couldn't get from a Google search

This book had a few interesting tidbits, but it was fairly short and made up of mostly pictures, it hardly had much detail and history. If you want the absolute minimum historical context of the DPRK and a bunch of pictures, then this book will suffice.

I have read quite a few books about North Korea, most with few or no pictures. It's nice to see pictures of the places I have read about.

The book came in excellent shape, I really enjoyed it and it was very informative.
