I've wanted to write this book for years, but I've been scared. It's a complete departure from from my other novels, in genre and scope. My other books fall more into the Thriller and Mystery categories, where Red Mountain best fits into Contemporary Fiction. No one is getting chased; not everyone has a gun; and there's no mystery to solve. But that doesn't mean it can't be a page-turner. It just meant I had to dig a little deeper into my character's minds, exploring what would happen if these giant personalities that had started running around in my head all lived on one tiny mountain together. I couldn't be more proud of how it turned out, and I hope it speaks to you. Red Mountain in Washington State is one of the most magical places on earth, from the wines and food to the scenery and most importantly, the people. I hope this book can give you a little taste of what it's like until you make it here in person. I loved this book and was ready to give it a great review. It's about all about the folks who live on Red Mountain. An interesting group and all with a different story. The ending was just awful. Left you hanging. I know there will be another book but to end the story so abruptly was an insult to the people who took their time to read or buy the book. Give it an end and then go on to the next chapter of their lives. Very disappointing.

Ugh! I started out not invested in these characters, but as the book went on that changed. I started caring about some of the characters in this book only to be left hanging at the end. Be warned that you are left not knowing what happens to a couple of the main characters at the end. I hate when novels do not explain what happens to their characters at the end and leave you with everything unanswered! There are a bunch of weird sexual affairs between all these characters on Red Mountain and the ending is a huge disappointment! I am not sure why this book received so many good reviews. Huge disappointment!!

story without an ending ruined it for me

I searched already but there is no sequel for this book. I'd like to know what comes next for Brooks, Otis and Joan. I'm the type of reader that an author would have to spoon-feed his own conclusions to.The story didn't exactly leave me hanging. It seems the serenity of Joan the shaman rubbed me just right that though I have questions left unanswered, I know that everything will be alright.Red Mountain in Washington state is a small vineyard town and as a novel featured the colorful lives of its residents.Otis and Brooks are like father and son; Otis saving Brooks from a sorry life on the streets to help him become an excellent winemaker like himself.Joan is a breath of fresh air to her friends. A shaman who helped people find healing. To Otis, she not only directed him towards healing; she was also his reason to love again.Margot was broken but was made whole again when she learned to forgive.There are more in the cast of characters, but you get the picture. Red Mountain is the story of small town neighbors who each have their own struggles, but like the wine they produce, got better with age in dealing with themselves and with each other.

Seriously, Boo Walker!! I have to know what happens on Red Mountain. As you read this story you become so immersed in the characters and Red Mountain, you almost feel you live there. You love everyone, even though at times you hate them too. So many lives intertwined and all of them are this huge extraordinary family. Miss everyone already, hope there is more to Red Mountain in the future. Thanks for the ride, Boo.

This story held my interest, but I feel there just has to be a sequel. Way too many loose ends. Some of the characters' behavior was so self-destructive I wanted to scream, I kept thinking real people would just not act that way. It had a very soap-opera feel to the story line, so perhaps that is where the implausible reactions fit in. It is worth reading, but don't expect to be satisfied with the ending. I suppose, in a way, that is a positive. I would probably get the sequel (I assume there will be one) just to see if any of them wise up.

I got the book expecting a nice, entertaining story, until I got to the filthy joke. It was unexpected, and unappreciated. I read two more pages before closing the book forever. If there is one, there's likely more. I removed 3 stars for that. I was so disgusted I won't be reading this author again. There were too many characters as well, but I was willing to keep reading since the characters were well drawn and entertaining. I took 1 star for that.

So many books to read and not enough time, so if I get 50 pages into a book and feel bored, I don't finish. Such was the case with Red Mountain. Luckily, it was free. Perhaps if the description would have made it clear this was a romance, I wouldn't have even tried to read it.

Nikki Leonti Edgar was raised singing in church with her family, and her love of music was birthed through hearing the sounds of gospel choirs. She experienced the loss of a brother through cancer at a very young age, but she was inspired by her family’s continuous faith through that tragedy. Nikki had a successful Christian music career with number-one songs and charting album sales, but it wasn’t enough to fill the emptiness inside her. She found herself alone with two children by the time she was twenty-four years old, and soon moved to California and began to create a business for herself, all while being a single mom for nearly a decade. Throughout her time in California, she wrote music for television and film that spanned all genres. Her credits include multiple Disney and Dreamworks movies, lending vocals to over two hundred songs on Fox’s hit show Glee, as well as backing vocals for albums and live shows for artists such as Rod Stewart, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, CeeLo Green, Amy Grant, Selena Gomez, Faith Hill, Josh Groban, Pharrell Williams, Kirk Franklin, and many others. She has written songs for various artists, including Jessie J, Robin Thicke, Candice Glover, Rebecca Ferguson, Olivia Holt, and Dove Cameron. I truly enjoyed this book. I think it’s something that every single mother can relate to and be encouraged. I like the way the author was very transparent in her writings. As I read, it was as if we were sitting together talking. I think any single mom who reads it will be touched.

“All things beautiful” is really a devotional that can put back hope and encouragement into a single parent’s life. I found her quick stories relatable, short simple and to the point. I like how it’s a way to get back into a habit of memorizing or reading a quick verse—-prayer is written down—-and her relatable story bit that is down right encouraging because sometimes we need to hear that nitty gritty story!For a short quick devotional that is something you can remember throughout the day—this is perfect.

Love Nikki’s authenticity in this book about what life is like being a single mom. She shares her real life stories and lessons she learned along the way. I loved reading her journey and the wealth of wisdom she shares with moms. I think any women could benefit from reading this devotional and be encouraged to hold on to hope and be confident to trust God in life!

This book was so amazing and totally encouraging! I recommend it for anyone needing a boost.

Writing good books to teach you how to create software is even harder than knowing how to create good software -- so I try to be generous in my review of such books. Also, note that I had a pre-publication version of the book, so I won't criticize the minor inconsistencies and the badly rendered pictures, since those are likely to get fixed in final editing.This one is a great effort at an ambitious task, as given in the title: to take a programming novice to a beginning professional creating software using Ruby on Rails. And this is indeed a valiant effort: the author does quite well in guiding the reader step-by-step through the various learnings and tasks. He writes well, and clearly.However, it falls short in my view, because the goals are misconceived. What we really need here is a set of three separate books: (1) a really good book to help the reader learn Ruby, going through concepts, philosophy, syntax, and effective techniques; (2) a really good book to teach Rails, again covering concepts and philosophy, syntax, and proven techniques; (3) finally, a guidebook to walk the learning programmer through a complete implemention that could be delivered as a public web application. Unfortunately, in trying to munge all three together into one book, we get very little of #1 & #2, and a poor man's version of #3. There's much too much focus on syntax and examples, where concepts have not been fully explained. I think a novice would step on the shuriken and suffer bad self-injury with the sword, and not quite achieve ninjahood here.I'd suggest taking a look at a good Ruby book (Eloquent Ruby by Olsen, for example) and a good Rails book (Ruby on Rails Tutorial by Hartl) first. If you're completely new to programming, I might even suggest starting with the Python language first (Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner by Dawson), rather than Ruby.After that, this book might be helpful in guiding you through some of the details and intricacies of creating a full web application using Ruby on Rails.

As a novice Ruby programmer I've heard that Ruby and RAILS go together. That is write Ruby code, use RAILS for web development. I got this book with the hope that I'd work my way through it and learn RAILS. The book has content specific to both the Mac OS X and Windows environments and is certainly the right text to work your way through RAILS (with or without prior experience with Ruby). I worked my way through about half of the book. At that point I stopped working my way through the book and it has since sat on the shelf. I don't use it as a reference. I believe this could be a great library book if you intend to learn RAILS, but I wouldn't invest in purchasing it.My advice to a would be RAILS novice is to instead go to udemy or stacksocial and find an online course. It is far easier and I believe more efficient than reading and then trying to manually type in examples or download the code examples in the book.I find no fault or issues with the book, but as an instructional book, having online code examples is fairly limited. If this paralleled an online class perhaps the online class would be more useful. That's my feedback and advice for potential buyers of the book and perhaps for the author. In the age before online classes perhaps this would have been 5 star. The point of the ratings is to help potential buyers (readers) make an informed choice. I hope this is helpful as you consider your purchase.

This is a good, straight to the point copy of the Corpus Hermeticum. The larger print and spacing makes it much easier to read. My only gripe is the editor's introduction, where he seems to misinterpret a couple key elements in understanding the Hermetic philosophy. It is definitely a book that must be meditated on in order to be fully understood, as it does become quite complex and esoteric in some chapters. I highly recommend for anyone interested in Western Spirituality.

I torn. I liked the characters and the story was good but I felt like the author needs more experience and to concentrate more, or perhaps go back and re-read her stories before publishing them. Several grammatical errors (e.g., peak instead of peek) that shouldn't occur if good proof reading is undertaken. I thought the end came up too fast and that there could have been a better interweaving of the villain into the story. The heroine's friend was kind of thrown away and the old lady, who the characters seemed to adopt at one point, totally vanished from the story. She seemed like a great character to include and I was sorry she wasn't given a proper place or at least update in the epilogue. I wanted to know what happened with her. I'll have to give some serious thought to reading other stories in this series.

I really enjoy reading Ms. Sullivan's books. This one, oh my, everyone's sad back stories and the fire drama ex boyfriend, it is all so touching. Excellent read and I recommend this book.

Great story but, consider a proof reader. Major spelling errors and poor grammar. Very hard to read without correcting subconsciously

The story line didn't make sense. Unrealistic. And the editing in this book was non existant. It made it hard ro read.

First the story's plot was predictable and underdeveloped. The initial premise of the story and relationship between the three characters is good, but nothing was fully developed. Disappointing! The lead character meet two guys and announces within minutes to a bar full of people that she was thinking of having sex with both of them. Her friend's reaction was strange and confusing. Then the sex between the three of them was difficult to accept since the two men hadn't seen each other for 15 years and had never shared a woman. But the biggest problem with this story is the overwhelming number of grammatical errors misspelled words. If someone edited this book did they even speak English? Thankfully, I didn't spend money to buy this book and just borrowed it through unlimited plan. I'm an English teacher, and I would give this story a failing grade and suggest a rewrite.

This is a sexy insta-love story. I liked the story and loved the characters, which is important for me. The editing was so bad though that I had a hard time getting into the book. Wrong words were used, some sentences had extra words and timing didn't always line up. I had to reread sentences, sometimes more, to figure out what was supposed to be written. It kept me from really getting into the story.

This is a great story about friendship and love, but there were some problems. The number of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors were so distracting it really messed up the flow of the story. This is definitely a disappointment since the story is very enjoyable. If not for those issues, I would have given this book five stars.

The 'Reich' is crumbling, but Hitler frantically throws the last warm bodies into battle: old men, the injured and feeble, and all 15- and 16-year old boys. But in his insane mind he justifies discarding the youth of the country. If Germany can't win, they can all go to hell.My father, Günter, and his best friend, Helmut, were among those teens, drafted in March 1945. They were told to travel 200 kilometers south to report to the Hitler Youth Office in Marburg and jointedly defend the fatherland. Without training, without weapons. My father and his friend decided it was a bad idea. They chose to think for themselves and disobey. The prize was their lives because being caught meant certain execution.At the time nobody knew how much longer the war would last. And so the task of hiding and eluding became a race for survival. Not to mention the turmoil Günter and Helmut must have felt every single day. Had they done the right thing? Would they get caught? Well, they almost did. And they almost died.I chose to publish this novelette separately because I wanted to share the conflict and threats these boys endured for disobeying orders. This is an exert of the book, Surviving the Fatherland. I ended up getting the book. I couldn't put it down. We were stationed in West Belin, Germany, in 1984-1987 and I thought I knew everything about the war. This shows the position of the average Germans in their villages as they struggled to survive the war. I knew nothing about them. I lumped everyone together, not realizing how non-Nazis lived and suffered. I highly recommend these books.

This book is a few chapters taken out of the book "Surviving the Fatherland." As I already ordered this book, "47 Days" was a waste of money. I should have read the previews more carefully. As its own story, 47 Days is entertaining but should not have been compiled as it is not complete and too short a read.

If you read surviving the fatherland you do not need this book. It's all in it. Surviving the fatherland is a must read

I recommend this book for schools it has to be remembered. This should never happen again! We must read to know the truth

I gave it three stars because I was expecting a book but it's only and excerpt and the print is really small. However it was interesting enough for me to want to read the actual book.

Freddie goes home to Jersey where he tends the farm with his father until he decides that he needs to help in the fight. Lexi just wants to contribute and volunteers, driving ambulances and delivering supplies in England. Meri joins the V.A.D. and is nursing in a field hospital in France. Charles is fighting in the trenches and is soon joined by Freddie. Freddie is wounded in the face and is evacuated to the field hospital where Meri is a nurse. Eventually Freddie ends up in a Facial Reconstruction Hospital in Amiens where everything possible is done to repair the damage done to his face.I could just re-write the story in my review, because there are so many facets of this novel. However, I must say that reading this novel gave a true glimpse of what had to be the most horrible type of warfare. Human beings maimed and killed over a swath of land known as “no man’s land”, constant barrage of munitions, mud, filth, deprivation. This book follows these four young people as they come to grips with their lives during and after the war. With carnage and damage surrounding them, can they even think of going on with new lives.I enjoyed the book from the historical viewpoint, but it was hard reading of the terrible injuries and the attempts of the men and women to overcome them.

It was a love story with a lot of history of WW1 woven through it. The broken faces title refers to the soldiers whose faces were maimed while fighting in France. The families and their homes were beautifully described. The nurses and support people came to life in this heart breaking, at times, story. I think you will like the ending.

I loved this book and did not want it to end. I fell in love with the characters and felt their pain, and happiness. Sure there were some gory war parts but mostly the lives of four special people. This is a must read!

A story about WWI and all the horror war can bring. But even during war time life goes on; people find love and hope for a better future. An excellent story!

I found this incredibly hard to put down. I don't read a lot of historical fiction, but this enthralled me from the beginning, and as I went along, I couldn't help wondering what would happen next. And, of course, there was the happily after ever I crave - even if the characters did have to go through hell to get there. I can't wait to see what DM Carr has in store for readers next.

Could not put this book down - so heart wrenching in places, so explicit in places - gave a real insight into the tragic injuries suffered by so many during the great war. Love is oh so strong and not everyone realises it!Seriously recommend this book if you like war stories!

The story was ok but dragged on & no one being honest or telling the truth. It ended happy with all problems worked out.

If you have a weak stomach do not read as there are parts in the book that are gorey . But, with that being said I so enjoyed this book. Definitely a lot of suspense and a great love story. I will definitely follow this author
