DO NOT GET THE KINDLE VERSION OF THIS BOOK!!! First of all the material and writing style are really enjoyable in the intro section. I was really excited to dig into the meat of the book with the training plans. When you get the to actual training plans they are unreadable in kindle format!! The tables get formatted oddly and become very hard to follow along. I'm mad that a kindle version is even an option. I'm torn on what to do now. I really don't want to have buy the book for a second time (in paperback) just to get a readable version. However, I do think there is a lot of good material here which is why I'm extremely frustrated. Rating for the content I read: 4.5 stars. Rating for the kindle version: 0 stars.

As a newbie trail runner, this book makes Ultra running do-able. Krissy provided a detailed plan for various ultra distances depending on what your goals are. After reading this book I felt I had the tools and know-how to properly train for a 50k and finally registered for the race I had been eyeing. I would recommend this book to others who are thinking about running crazy long distances.

A practical book for someone of average ability who's learning ultra running... like me. This book is packed with great advice and well thought out training plans for the average runner moving up to ultra distances. I wish I had it last year when I was training for my first 50 miler. Glad I discovered this as I am training for my first 100 mile race.

Thanks Krissy! I'm a 34 year old female running hermit in the Olympic mountains. I literally have no one to run with. While I worry about safety on the trails alone, I can't sit still. Thanks for the mentorship of this book, which has given me the ability to progress safely, and have the confidence in my body needed to run the trails here in a day, that most people only dream of hiking over several. I really appreciate the companionship of this book on my running journey. See you at the summit!

The book has a nice clear layout, is easy to follow and the author explains everything very well. I like how concise it is...makes it easy to pick up and read a specific section you're interested in without having to read the whole thing. It definitely fits a lot of information into a small space. It has sections at the beginning explaining the layout of the book and the nuts and bolts of preparation for an ultra race, and then the second half of the book contains training plans for different races/experience levels. To decide which training plan is right for you, it has a nice little quiz at the beginning for you to judge where you're at and how you need to prepare for your race. The training plans are color coded (which I love) and are very straightforward without excess fluff. One other thing to note is that this book is written by a woman which is so nice to see in a genre of books that has mostly male authors. She includes some female tips that are overlooked in training programs written by men. Overall, I really like this book and would highly recommend it.

You always read that over the course of one's education you have a few, and usually just a few, great teachers who both know how to convey their knowledge, have complete mastery of their subject matter and teach you exactly what you need to know. These are usually the practitioners. I put this book in that category; very to the point, very practical and great knowledge. I have been a consistent runner for 45+ years and although not a competitive runner or person I trail run 4 - 6 miles probably four days per week and periodically run longer trail runs with friends. I have often looked for information on complementary exercises, how quickly to ramp up distance after laying off after an an injury or other cause, physical issues that inevitably arise, hydration (I run in 112 degrees in the summer in Arizona) and just the practical information that is good to absorb. This is a real cook book giving just that; great information from someone who knows a lot more than the mechanics of running. Her knowledge of managing nutrition, hydration and the mental is inspiring and makes you realize what it takes to push the remarkable human body to the edge of its limits. It is also written with a humble and human touch, allowing for emotions and the imperfections in all of us who aspire to any goal. I would recommend this book for any level of runner and any person who simply enjoys running.

I thought this was a very well written and insightful book. I thought the 'extra' sections were beneficial and I picked up tips I have not seen before.In multiple occasions, the author did an excellent job pointing out what were her personal biases.A couple of other reviews had problems reading the workouts (recommend that you purchase the paper back version rather than the Kindle versions)--I did not find it to be a problem on my kindle nor on the kindle cloud.The one thing that would be nice is to have a site where you could down load the Plan into Microsoft Excel. The reason being is that I am sure I will change things around and this would make it easier for me to customize the plan. But that is just my personal preferenceThe workout plans are very diverse and balanced. I am looking forward to using this plan!

A perfect book if you want to learn about prophets and get inspired with the lives they lived.

Its a book good for young people who are ready to acquire information that are more advanced that the ones that they are used to reading. the information are interesting, making the food for thoughts for these young learners. I gave the book as a present to my daughter who is currently seeking to know more about Islam in greater depths.

Disliked that 99% of the book was only in English. How difficult would it be to include both Arabic and English? From what I have seen of this book, there was quite a bit of space to include Arabic.

Very nice and brief review that gives a nice highlight for each prophet and their timelines. Not for people who are looking in depth information. But just the right book if you want a quick summary and family tree and connections between prophets. VERY helpful.

This book is best suited for those who adore Biblical Tradition, meaning , Jews, Christians and Muslims.I like the vivid and candid details and comparison of alternative aspects of some of the stories.The stories reveal that the three religion comes form the same root.The book provides a great deal of insights into the common grounds of the three religions.

Once I started reading Don Diamont’s “My Seven Sons and How We Raised Each Other”---I could not put it down. Even if you are not aware of his work as an actor on the CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful”, you will still enjoy this book. It is beautifully written with so much heart. Heartbreaking loss and survival with the deaths of Diamont’s father, brother and sister are particularly poignant. He did such amazing things to make the last days of his brother incredibly special. It certainly makes you feel all the more fortunate if you still have your parents. Diamont provides the best living tribute possible to his own beloved father every day by using lesson learned from him in raising all his sons (whether biological or not or a nephew, etc) in a blended family. Diamont whitewashes nothing about raising teenagers or anything else for that matter. Not surprisingly, his romantic exploits were fascinating culminating in finding the perfect partner in his wife. Show business and sports world (Mickey Mantle and especially Muhammad Ali) anecdotes are particularly entertaining. Adored the behind-the-scenes soap stories. Filled with love, humor and heart, this book would make a great Father’s Day or anytime present. Highly recommended.

I liked this book, reading about Don Diamonts life. I bought it because I watch The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. Been watching since 1988! So when I saw Don had a book I had to have it. Only thing , I wish there were pictures of him and family in the book. Still it is a good book,enjoyed every minute of it.

I did not expect this book to be one hard to put down. I did not know the author or his acting work. However, I am definitely a fan after reading his book of him, his parents and siblings, his wife Cindy (I love a strong woman who can find, love, and marry a man strong enough to let her be amazingly strong.) , and the family they became with all of the kids. Congratulations on a well written, real life story worth my time to enjoy on a hot Texas summer Sunday afternoon!!!!

I was actually very surprised with this book. As an arrogant actor on The Bold and Beautiful I was expecting a very ego driven book but I really enjoyed reading about his life and all that he has endured, especially the deaths of his dad and siblings. He was very candid about his own mistakes, especially in love and was very open and I intimate about the relationships he has with all his boys, even though only some of them are his biological children he cares for all of them and treats them all as his own. I finished the book admiring this man a lot. He shoulders a lot of responsibility but does it with love, pride and laughter. That is one lucky family to have his as the dad.

I bought this book because of all the great reviews it got. Unfortunately, I can't say the same. His story itself was interesting but I didn't like the constant flashbacks. I would have preferred a book that was written in chronological order. I also have a son with ADHD and I felt as if he wrote it because of all the back and forth in time.

If you are a Bold and Beautiful fan of a Don Diamont fan you will enjoy this book. I am both and I could hear his voice reading the book to me!

About the Author

Arni Thorarinsson grew up in Reykjavik, Iceland, channeling his childhood interests in film, music, and writing into a career as a journalist. He cofounded and edited Iceland’s first independent weekly, and covered stories big and small, local and international, for the nation’s largest magazine and the weekend editions of two major newspapers. In addition to print journalism, he has worked regularly in radio and television. In the mid-1990s, he stumbled upon a penchant for writing screenplays and crime novels, including Blue Moon, The Seventh Son, and Angel of the Morning. Season of the Witch was nominated for the Icelandic Literature Prize. Translator Anna Yates grew up in London and Paris. A recovering alcoholic newspaper reporter, Einar is sent to a small town in the northern Iceland for a second chance and a new start. His principal assignment is to write human interest stories and frivolous fluff, but soon Einar is himself dragged into some mysterious events.Why does a local woman just fall from a boat and drown while on a corporate team-building excursion? Why does well-liked teenager murdered on the night he was going to star in a high-school play? Even though the police do not share any facts, Einar does not ignore the mysteries. Are these two events related?He is determined to find the connection and solve the two mysteries. His snooping lands him in several treacherous dangerous clashes and causing some disclosures that are hard to handle.His amateur sleuthing leads to some dangerous confrontations and heart-breaking revelations. So what's the ending? You have to read the story to find out this fascinating tale.Author Arni Thorarinsson writes some very interesting characters, which like us have their own hardships and battles. He shows us the Iceland today is going through many of the same changes we in America are experiencing. The problem of immigration, teen-age turmoil, and the economical struggles are world wide.

Season of the Witch deals with topics characteristic of Scandinavian crime novels (see Barry Forshaw's Death in a Cold Climate: A Guide to Scandinavian Crime Fiction): the impact of immigration on a previously homogeneous culture, political manipulations, an increasing crime rate, rightest skinheads, drug-stimulated disruptions to society, and a somewhat dreary location. Yet Iceland is different from its Scandinavian neighbors. The social democratic ideal is less a factor in Iceland, and Iceland is more isolated from Europe and less populous, with just over 300,000 people, two-thirds living in the Reykjavik area. In spite of an actual rate of about 1 murder per year, Arni Thorarinsson paints a credible picture of a journalist's investigation of several suspicious deaths in the sparsely populated north. The reporter's travels through the region, dealings with local authorities, and examination of possible motives nicely inform the reader about Iceland and its culture.The protagonist is a respected reporter whose drinking and rebellious streak have relegated him to his paper's new regional office. Initially portrayed as the stereotypical grouchy misfit detective, Einar is eventually revealed as perceptive and caring. Beyond solving the mysteries, his discoveries are, on one level, about human nature and the definition of evil; on another level, his investigations expose the frailty of human development in the teen years. Thorarinsson describes Einar's strengthening self-understanding and improving mood effectively and with humor. For example, Einar's developing relationship with the pet bird that came with his apartment is both funny and symbolic of his growing appreciation for his new locale.In spite of all these strengths, the novel lacks suspense and the crimes seems less consequential than in many Scandinavian crime novels. There is mystery, but only a few people seem to care--except as newspaper copy--about whether the deaths were the result of murder and, if so, "whodunit." Einar himself does not seem highly motivated to solve the mysteries quickly. There are many long quotes from writings of one victim and the play that the high school is about to produce, as well as a lot of description of the reporter's smoking in his small office and elsewhere--these are not irrelevant, because they are part of Einar's reflectiveness, but they further slow the pace of a novel that already is about subtle crimes with slowly revealed clues. Not a page-turner.

Two summers ago,while driving through northern Iceland, as the road descended from the mountains we came upon a breathtakingly beautiful fjord across which sat the idyllic, small city of Akureyri; we only had time to spend a few hours, but felt a powerful connection; ever since, I have been pleasantly entertaining the thought about going back to Akureyri for a few days to relax and spend some genuine time while exploring its gorgeous environs. By chance, I came upon Season of the Witch and immediately "Kindled" it when I found it was set in and all about Akureyri. I finished the read in two sittings while enjoyably visualizing Akureyri and the unfolding of the plot in this setting.I wish that I could now be more enthusiastic but, while happy about the welcome return to Akureyri in my mind's eye, I couldn't help but feeling letdown by the less than truly engaging nature of the actual plot; also, an occasional clunkiness in the tranlation. Athough the principal characters were well-drawn and sympathetic, I would have trouble recommending the book to a friend who would be unfamiliar with the terrain and feel of this area of Iceland. It was, however, refreshing to read a Scandinavian mystery, which while not naive by any means, was free of the often gratuitous and excessive gruesomeness of so much of the genre.

I purchased the Kindle edition and have found it so helpful. I have hypothyroidism myself and I cannot express enough appreciation for both this book and for how the information is presented in such an open, non-judgemental manner. I feel like Emily has really empowered everyone to understand that this book is a tool, a resource to help them better understand what works for them because even if we all have the same/ similar diagnoses, we all respond differently to different diets/ treatments. As a registered dietitian myself, I also find this takeaway incredibly important and greatly appreciate how well-researched the book is. Bonus? The kindle edition is perfect for making the recipes - I can easily set it up in the kitchen on my tablet as I'm making the recipes! I love the berry chocolate chia seed pudding and ginger carrot bisque!

Awesome book. I learned a lot about how diet effects Throid function. I have Hashimoto’s, so I was very interested to get this book. I pre-ordered the book and decided to download the Kindle version as well. Recipes are clear, concise and easy to prepare. I love the layout and photos. I have made the Zucchini Shrimp Scampi more that once and I love it. Although this is a cookbook for, and about how diet impacts Throid I think it is a great all around cookbook. There are some great recipes for anyone. I like that the recipes don’t require a lot of unique ingredients that I have to go out of my way to get like some cookbooks do. Highly recommended.

I have tried several recipes in this cookbook and have loved them all! Super easy prep and ingredients that I have on hand. I have made the Blueberry Stress Relief Smoothie as well as the Berry Bliss. Very flavorful and filling. A great way to start our day. My husband suffers from Hypothyroidism and this cookbook has given us so many great meals already. His favorites are the tempeh and the spring rolls so far. Looking forward to trying more. I am ordering the hard copy of this cookbook as a gift for my close friend that has Hashimoto's. This cookbook is a winner!

I really enjoyed this recipe book, i preordered it and was very pleased. Also bought the kindle version with the hard-copy so i can have it where ever i go. The one thing i really disliked was that it did not have any pictures, so i could not really sure how things were supposed to turn out . Other then that, lots of yummy recipes for people like me who are are on the anti-inflammatory lifestyle along with GF and DF. Still have to tweek it a little but its worth it and fun to play around with these easy recipes.

Bought for my daughter. Has plenty of healthy and great tasting recipes..haven’t had it long enough to see if the recipes actually help her thyroid problem yet but giving it a good try.

I enjoyed seeing the easy ingredients and recipes. The only reason I didn’t mark 5 stars is that I would have liked to see substitutions. I don’t like coconut shred/flakes. My fault - did not look at the year of the travel guide. Needed one more recent.

When my sister, and neice and myself went to Egypt in 1997, we took three guide books. The Fodors, Lets Go, and the Rough Guide. We threw the Fodors, and Lets Go out in Luxor, and used the Rough guide. We loved Egypt, and are planning another trip, Culture Shock would have been a good book to have read first. If you go to Luxor, go stay at Abul Kassem's place, just show up, its always empty. We also loved the Three Corners on the beach at Hurgada. Now i am dreaming again .......

Fodor's Pockeet Egypt, 1999 is a perfect travel companion for the first time visitor as well as return travelers.
